EEB alumna Schultheis honored for Data Nuggets
Elizabeth Schultheis, the education and outreach coordinator for the Kellogg Biological Station Long-Term Ecological

Research Program at Michigan State University, has been honored with the T.H. Huxley
Award by the Society for the Study of Evolution. She was selected for her collection
of educational resources called "Data Nuggets". Data Nuggets, which were developed in collaboration with Melissa Kjelvik, bring real data and
scientific role models into the classroom to build quantitative and critical thinking
skills. Kjelvik also is an EEB alumna.
As part of the award, Schultheis will receive funding to present her work at the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) conference in October.
The award was named in honor of Darwin's very public supporter T.H. Huxley, which recognizes and promotes the development of high-quality evolution education resources. This award provides funding for an SSE member to present evolution education resources at an education-focused session or conference approved by the Huxley committee.
She completed her PhD in plant biology and EEB at MSU’s Kellogg Biological Station as a member of Jennifer Lau’s lab. Her dissertation research focused on invasive plants in Michigan and whether release from enemies, like herbivores and disease, could drive their success over native plants.
