The Director’s Award for Outstanding Publication in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior will grant $1,125 to two graduate students with outstanding publications that are affiliated with EEB. Requirements for submissions are:

  1. First author must be a current graduate student of EEB (co-first authorship of two current EEB graduate students affiliated with MSU is allowed).
  2. Paper must have been submitted while the first author was a graduate student of EEB.
  3. Paper must be either published by a peer review journal, or accepted and in press at a peer-reviewed journal (no preprint, e.g, bio archive).
  4. Multiple papers may be nominated by an individual. Self-nominations are encouraged.

Papers will be reviewed based on their broader impact, novelty, creativity, and contributions of the first author(s). Priority will be given to research articles, reviews and meta-analyses, methods articles, perspectives, and those focused on best practices/ethics/community engagement.

Award selection is organized by the EEB Presidential Postdocs Chia HsiehNicole Lussier, and Becca Nelson.

Congratulations to Wendy Leuenberger and Caleb Krueger on winning the 2026 award. Honorable mention goes to Asia Hightower and Alex Lewanski. Read more about these students and their work, and stay tuned for the next call for nominations in fall 2026!
