EGG Meeting 10/19/2020

    • MSFCU account is currently inactive
    • How should we use it in the future?
    • What fundraising could we do in the future?

      • What are our “flagship” events?
        • EEB Symposium
        • Biology on Tap
        • Ideas:
          • Beginning-of-year camping trip?
          • Spring picnic?
          • Fundraising for alcohol at events
          • Holiday party in December
    • Account should be set up so we can easily pass it to future members
    • In the short term, EEB/COGS can provide funding for EGG events with written budget (but no $$ for alcohol)
  • Updates from Elise
    • Committees are forming!
    • Merging of grad student list serve with postdoc––happening soon! We will get updates from Barbara next month
      • Eventual plan is to have alumni on a separate list serv
    • Website: currently under construction
      • Step 1: get the words right; step 2: make it look good
      • Grad program tab: soon will contain edited text, grad students should review it and decide if website has the info that current/prospective students need to know
    • EEB applications
      • Is it silly that people apply before they apply to MSU?
        • General opinion is yes!
        • Lots of paperwork for students who don’t end up coming here
      • Tell accepted students to apply by July 1st or December 1st (so they’re in the program officially be the beginning of the Fall semester) and continue to accept applications in the summer and fall.
      • Program will become stricter about students applying to the specialization in their last year

      • Update twitter handle on EEB website
      • What is the purpose of the EGG twitter account?
      • Highlight the symposium and bio on tap (and other public events) on twitter

      • Rolled out around symposium time
      • To be sold at cost to fund discretionary account
      • Items to be given to seminar speakers/prizes/awards
